Our name says it all: Developing Potential. We believe in the potential and value of every individual served. We believe in honoring and helping each person develop a vibrant, meaningful and healthy life.
To provide quality day habilitation services to adults with developmental disabilities and support those individuals to reach their potential and achieve a dignified, adult lifestyle. DPI is a holistic program that focuses on Body, Mind, and Spirit of the individuals we support seeking to build strength, foster independence, and be a vehicle for changing lives.
Developing Potential is a nationally accredited CARF Day Habilitation program that began providing support services to adults with developmental disabilities in Jackson County in 1993. DPI’s program focuses on building strengths, fostering independence, changing lives, and developing potential. This mission drives DPI’s program services and the commitment DPI has to helping individuals achieve an adult, dignified lifestyle.
Developing Potential opened its doors to eight clients in 1993 in order to bridge a gap in community services. By 1996, DPI had reached and exceeded the fifty person capacity the original facility would enable services, and a wait list for services was started. In 2002, DPI East was opened in Independence, Missouri, more than doubling the space and the services that were offered at the beginning of the agency’s inception. Today, DPI continues to grow and the program continues to evolve to meet the needs of families throughout Jackson County.
DPI’s commitment to excellence has been recognized by numerous Honors that have been received through the years for exemplary advocacy practices. This commitment continues today through the ongoing solicitation of input from consumers, stakeholders, and outside perspectives that continue to shape DPI’s pursuit of excellence in serving the community. It is this need of services to families with developmental disabilities that sparked DPI into existence and it is this same need that continues to drive and focus expansion of services throughout Jackson County.
